Khartoum, Jan. 30 (SUNA) - President of the Republic, Field Marshal Omer Al-Bashir, Monday evening returned home after his participation at the 18th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.

President Al-Bashir and the accompanying delegation were received at Khartoum Airport by the First Vice - President, Ali Osman Mohamed Taha, a number of ministers.
In a statement to SUNA, the Minister of Foreign Trade and member of the delegation that accompanied President Al-Bashir to the summit, Osman Omer Al-Sharif, said that the African summit was successful and realized its objectives.
He referred to the effective and positive participation of Sudan at the African Summit, which has focused on bolstering the inter-border trade between the African states.
He said that studies conducted by the Trade Ministers in Accra revealed that the level of the inter-border trade between the African countries is at the level of 25%, while this level at the COMESA and similar organizations did not exceed 15%, a matter that necessitates establishment of a large free trade zone for reaching a bigger level of trade exchange between the African nations.
He said that the summit tackled the difficulties and impediments facing the inter-border trade in Africa, adding that the meeting disclosed that seven major issues were behind the backwardness of trade.
He indicated that trade is a key factor for realizing sustainable development.
Al-Sharif said that most of the African states are exporting their products in the form of raw materials, a matter that make them losing the value-added advantage, adding that Africa shall give concern to the use of technology and science in order to enhance their economies and trade.
