President's Wife addresses first ladies conference in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, Jan. 30 (SUNA) - The Wife of the President of the Republic, Widad Babker, has stressed the importance of concerted efforts by the African local communities along with the official effort in combating AIDS.

In her address for the 10th session of the organization of the Africa's First Ladies, which convened during January 26 to 30 in Addis Ababa, Ustaza Widad referred to the efforts exerted by the African first ladies and the initiative given by the Sudan to meet the efforts for combating AIDS.
She expressed her deep appreciation for the efforts of OAFLA in mitigating the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa, stating that "our efforts as first ladies within our communities resulted in notabel achievments of national reponses in out countries, along with the birth of innovative initiatives ".
The Wife of the Presiddent indicated in her address that the concern was focused on work to stop vertical transmission from infected pregnant mother to fetus for the importance of this means in combating the pandemic.
She referred to the national campaign for combating AIDS which began on April 8, 2011 in Kassala town and attended by representatives of all Sudan.
"I launched the national compaign of the PMTCT on April 8, 2011 in Kassala State and to date we have taken great steps in this regard, and we are proud that we saved a lot of lives of innocent babies, the mothers of these babies will be officially honred by us in the next Mothers Day on March 21, 2012".
She announced in the same time success of the program which is one of the leading programs of its kind in Africa.
The President's Wife said that she would sponsor the annual conference of the specialist of gynecology and obstetrics, due to be held in the period from February 16 - 18 in which will discuss the issue of the vertical transmission of the disease from infected pregnant mother to fetus .
" The conference is expected to result in more commitment and enthusiasm of the specialist which will positively reflects on the services provided in this field".
She stressed the commitment of Sudan for combating AIDS and announced that Sudan pledges to sponsor the African joint efforts to develop a vaccine against AIDS.
She said "i am personally interested in these vaccine research efforts, especially those which moved recently to africa an I am specifically talking about the African AIDS Vaccine partnership (AAVP)".
Meanwhile, she expressed hope that these efforts would succeed and called for attraction of the internal and external support for researches conducted in this field, saying that "we really hope that this vaccine will be developed by sincere efforts and khowledge of African scientists".
The Wife of the President of the Republic, in a press statement following the meeting pointed out that the Sudan address in the conference has gained acceptance of the African first ladies, particularly the experiment of Sudan in this field in Kassala and the state's continuing support to the AIDS combating programs.
