Minister of Interior stresses importance of boosting Arab joint action to combat terrorism, drugs

Khartoum, March 16 (SUNA)- Minister of Interior, Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamid, Friday returned home after taking part in the 29th session of the Council of the Arab Ministers of Interior, held in the Tunisian capital, Tunis, on Wednesday, as well as the meeting on security of borders, held in Libya.

The Minister said in a statement to the Press at Khartoum airport that the Conference discussed number of issues, including cross-boundary crime, combating drugs and coordinating Arab security efforts to combat terrorism as well as other issues.

Addressing the session, the Minister stressed the importance of the meeting under these very circumstances, which necessitate unification of efforts in order to secure the Arab peoples and to realize social security. He also called for identifying the relationship between the security authorities and the social entities in order to avoid chaos and to strengthen the State's power in securing its people.

TThe Minister of Interior further briefed the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior on the situations in Sudan in the period after the separation of South Sudan from Sudan last year, focusing on the political and security efforts exerted to secure the elections and referendum held in 2011.

The Minister further expressed Sudan's gratitude to the Arab States over sponsoring the negotiations over Darfur issue, which was culminated by the signing of Doha Peace Agreement, lauding the Arab investments in the realization of economic security in Sudan.

Eng. Hamid urged his Arab counterparts to boost the joint Arab action in order to realize security and stability in the region, calling for increasing the proficiency of the Arab Security authorities and mutual technical assistance to serve the security of the member States.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior met at the sidelines of the 29th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior with the Deputy Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H.R.H. Prince Ahmad bin Abdul-Aziz, focusing on issues of common interests, cooperation on combating trafficking and terrorism and exchange of expertise and joint training.

The Minister of Interior further met with his Tunisian counterpart, Ali Laarayedh, and reviewed with him the situations in Sudan and Tunisia, stressing the importance of security and stability of the two countries. The two Ministers agreed to exchange expertise and visits as well as cooperation in domains of investment, expertise and coordination to combat crime.

The Minister, accompanied by the General Director of Police Forces, visited the premises of the Arab States Broadcasts Union and got acquainted with the broadcasting profession and its contributions in raising public awareness with security as well as involving the society in the security process.

The Conference adopted number of recommendations of the joint meetings with the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice, which considered the draft Pan-Arab strategy to combat trafficking in human beings and Arab protocol on combating piracy and the draft anti-corruption law and the model Arab anti-drug and Psychotropic Substances act.

The Conference further adopted the report of Naif University for the year 2011, and also adopted the report Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers.

The Conference sent a cable of thanks to the Tunisian President and the Tunisian people for hosting and organizing the conference, expressing gratitude to the pioneering role he has being playing in supporting the Arab issues in all different aspects and fields.
